Island, Iswater

Have you ever wondered if water gets slightly offended at the fact that it's "all about the land"? For example, when a blotch of land appears in the middle of an expanse of water, we call it an "island"; but when a blotch of water appears in the middle of an expanse of land, we call it "lake" or "pond" or - even worse - "puddle".

Why aren't these things called "iswaters"? Maybe it's some sort of divide-and-conquer logic that the land has, trying to destroy the sense of "clan psychology" that the water would get if it was referred to with a common theme.

Who knows. I wonder if other languages show favouritism towards the land or the water...
